Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I use Discount Efile?
Discount Efile simplifies filing 1099,1098 and W-2 forms!
Our easy online solution eliminates the need to print and mail forms to recipients. Using a streamlined process, it takes the guesswork out of 1099 & W2 filing, and makes it easier than ever.
There’s no software to download and no forms to purchase.
Simply register an account and begin entering your tax form information. You only pay when you submit the forms. So you can work on them now, and pay for them later.
With any software, you do most of the work figuring it out, then printing forms and stuffing envelopes.
But with Discount Efile, all you do is upload your data, and print, mail, and efile for you.
Plus, you can access your data from anywhere!
What is DiscountEFile.com?
Discount Efile is a website for small businesses to easily and securely efile 1099 and W2 forms, and instantly mail recipient copies in just a few mouse clicks.
It is the fastest way to file W-2 forms, new 1099-NEC forms, 1099-MISC and other 1099 forms, 1098, 1042 and 1095 forms. We can also handle Corrections for many forms, and let you instantly e-file W3 and 1096 forms, even if you're mailing Copy A forms yourself.
You enter your data online and we e-file with the IRS or SSA and mail copies to recipients.
You do not have to buy and fill out paper forms. You do not have to install software.
Discount Efile uses the EfileforBusiness.com service, an approved IRS e-file for Business Provider.
Due Dates and Cut-Off Times
Forms must be submitted to Discount E-file by 12:00pm EST on January 31, to be postmarked and e-filed by the deadline for Federal W-2 Copy A for all employees and Federal 1099-NEC Copy A for contractors.
How much does it cost?
You are charged per form filed, with volume discounts starting at just 11 forms. The price-per-form ranges from $1.50 to $4.75.
You have the options of E-file Only or having us print and mail recipient copies.
You are not charged until forms are submitted. You can set up all of your data for free!
Should you find an error after submitting your order, correction services are also available.
Can I Import data from QuickBooks?
Yes! It's actually pretty easy.
Payer information and recipient details, along with all of the dollar amounts can be easily exported from QuickBooks and imported into Discount Efile.
Do you file forms with the state and city?
We automatically file form types 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, 1099-MISC and 1099-R in the IRS’ Combined Federal/State Filing Program, which makes the form data available to the states that participate in the program.
The new 1099-NEC forms are NOT automatically e-filed with states.
We do NOT e-file or mail copies to City or Local governments.
To comply with non-participating states, or city and local requirements, you may need to print a copy of forms and mail them to these agencies.
Not all states participate in this program, including tax-free states such as Nevada, Florida, Washington and Wyoming. If you have questions regarding state filings, we suggest that you talk with your accountant or attorney for clarification.
Note: By participating in the Combined Federal State Filing Program, we do not file directly to the states and although the IRS makes the state information available for those states that participate, it is your sole responsibility to make sure the states receive the appropriate information.
Do you participate in the Combined Federal/State Filing Program (CFSFP)?
Yes! We automatically file Form 1099-MISC, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, 1099-B and 1099-R under the Combined Federal/State Filing Program, which most states participate in.
This program can save you the extra step of filing separately in participating states! However, not all states participate in this program, and not all states are supported. States supported:
Direct-to-State 1099-MISC & 1099-NEC Filing:
We file directly with Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island (MISC only), Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin.

We file directly with Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin.
Direct-to-State W-2 Filing:
We directly file with Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin.
Note: By participating in the Combined Federal State Filing Program, we do not file directly to the states and although the IRS makes the state information available for those states that participate, it is your sole responsibility to make sure the states receive the appropriate information.
Please read our Knowledgebase article about State E-filing.

Do I need to mail printed forms to the recipients?
No, as long as you use our Print & Mail service.

We also offer e-Delivery, which lets recipients access their forms instantly online instead of waiting for mailed copies. Simply provide the recipient’s email address and we will notify the recipient of this option.
When do forms get filed with the IRS or SSA?
We will start e-filing with the IRS or SSA as soon as it is allowed, typically mid-January.
We will file daily (possibly multiple times per day during busy days) thru March 31. Starting in April, forms will be e-filed every Monday morning through the end of the year.
Can I file for more than one business using a single account?
Yes. You can add an unlimited number of payers and recipients under a single account.
When filing a form, simply select the payer and recipient from the drop-down boxes on the form. All contact information will be filled in automatically.
This is great for tax and accounting professionals!
I discovered an error on a previously filed form. How do I correct it?
You can change any information entered into a form as long as you have not checked out and paid for our service.
Once you make a payment you will not be able to make changes to the existing form.
Filing a correction form:
If you discover any error after you have paid for the forms you must file a separate correction form.
Corrected forms must be submitted to the IRS and a corrected recipient copy must be provided to the recipient as soon as possible.
Can I correct data on a form that has already been printed and mailed?
No, you cannot change any information entered into a form once you have checked out and paid for our service. You MUST file a corrected form.
What is most important is that the IRS receives accurate information, so we encourage all customers to correct data in their forms as their own recipients report errors, prior to checking them out and submitting payment.
As part of our online filing service, we electronically submit your filings as they are checked out and paid for on our website.
Do I need to file 1096 or W-3 Transmittal forms?
How safe is the data I enter?
Your data is encrypted using the strongest encryption program available, recommended by the federal government.
We use the information you provide only for the purpose of processing your forms.
We do not sell or share your information with anyone unless required by law, even if you no longer use our services. Please refer to our Privacy Policy and rest assured that your data is in good hands.
